Facts and Events
[catherine epes.FTW] William Epes (1662-1710) In 1692 William sued William Bland over a bet on a horse, but lost the suit. In 1694 he was appointed surveyor, charged with clearing Bayley's Creek for navigation. On October 14, 1699, he notified the Charles City Militia of great numbers of strange Indians on the frontier and was then ordered to raise men to go after Indians. In 1701 he patented 1000 acres in Charles City County between Warwick and Joseph Swamps, along with Francis and Littlebury Epes. In 1702 he had 633.5 acres in newly formed Henrico, representing William's 1/3 of the 1701 patent plus 300 acres, presumably "Causons" received from his father's will. By 1704 he also owned 750 acres in Prince George. On April 27, 1710, he was named Sheriff of Prince George County. References
