- ↑ "HOMEWORTH - William C. Eglie Sr., 73, of Homeworth, died at 6:20 a.m.March 7, 2006 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in Chambersburg, Ohio to Russel William andIda Loretta (Davis) Eglie and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Eglie graduated from Minerva High School in 1950 and worked as amechanic at Transue and Williams for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He wasalso a Certified Fire Instructor. Mr. Eglie was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was afounder, first vice president and former director of the ColumbianaCounty Fireman's Association. He was the treasurer for the HomeworthVolunteer Fire Department, former chief and was a member for 44 years.He was a member of the George D. Worth Post 574, member of the VFW Post1036, and member of Eagles #2174 of Alliance; and was a former boardmember of Transue and Williams Credit Union. Mr. Eglie served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved tofish with his fishing friends and loved to spend time with hisgrandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Catherine "Kate" (Yennie) Eglie, whom hemarried March 6, 1955; two daughters, Gloria (Don) Long of Alliance, andBrenda (Randy) Reed of Homeworth; two sons, William (Kay) Eglie Jr. ofSebring, and John (Ange) Eglie of Homeworth; grandchildren, Kevin(Dierdre) Long of Akron, Reba Reed of Homeworth, and Brooke, Bethany andNikki Eglie of Homeworth; two brothers, Robert (Arlene) Eglie ofHomeworth, and Herbert (Margaret) Eglie of Minerva; and many nieces andnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-ChristianFuneral Home with Pastor Peggy Hawkins of Mt. Carmel United MethodistChurch officiating. Informal visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m.Thursday and formal visitation, with the family present, from 7-9 p.m.Thursday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Memorialcontributions may be made to Homeworth Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.Box 2, Homeworth, Ohio 44634. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
