William Dyke’s origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 27th July 1777, when he married Elizabeth Blackford at the church of St Nicholas in Warwick.

Between 1778 and 1792 William and Elizabeth had five children. Their first child was baptised at Leek Wootton, just north of Warwick, after which they returned to Warwick, where the other four children were baptised. Their youngest son died when he was about six years old in 1798.

William died in 1807, being buried at St Nicholas’s church in Warwick on 29th November 1807. His burial record does not say how old he was. Elizabeth survived him by nearly 32 years.
