    Obituary: Duffy "Ned" William, Jr
    ---
William Edward "Ned" Duffy, Jr., Denver, passed away on October 13, 2016. Ned was born March 29 1929, the son of William E Duffy Sr and Stella Tuhey in Dayton, OH. Ned served in the US Air Force where he received the prestigious American Service Award. Upon his return from the service Ned graduated from the University of Dayton, where he was a Dayton Flyer scholarship basketball player and golfer. Ned worked for 30 years in the beverage industry, where his company supplied transportation equipment. He was a scratch golfer and won many tournaments in Ohio and as a member of Lakewood Country Club in Colorado and Picacho Hills Country Club in Las Cruces, NM. Ned was able to combine his love of golf in his personal and business life. Ned married Sheila M. Dougherty in Dayton OH on November 24, 1956. In addition to raising six children they enjoyed traveling. Many of their travels were golf-centered trips to the islands and desert. They especially cherished long, scenic car trips together in his beloved country, America. Ned is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Ann (Kevin) Caldwell of Denver CO and Claire (Bill) Boyd of Green Valley CA, sons Hugh Duffy, Peter (Hillary) Duffy of Denver CO and William (Ned, III) of Spokane, WA; grandchildren Megan, Sam and Peter Caldwell, Liam Boyd, and Elizabeth, Eamon and Rachel Duffy, as well as several nieces and nephews. Ned was preceded in death by his daughter Jeanne Louise, his parents, brother Donald Duffy and sister Harriet Focke. Ned's greatest joy was being with his family. He had an extraordinary sense of humor and his wit was admired by all who knew him. He was always a gentleman. His Irish heritage was evident while sharing a good story and a wee bit of the Jameson. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 19 at 1:00 PM. St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2373 E. Arizona Ave. Denver, CO 80210. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Denver Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul Society or Arrupe Jesuit High School.
