William Harper Dowers, 87, a retired farmer living at Dunn, four miles west of Sullivan was fatally injured near his home at 4 pm yesterday when he was struck by a car driving by W.E.Olson of Argenta. The aged victim was brought to St. Marys hospital in an ambulance of the McMullin funeral home in Sullivan. He died at 8 pm.
Mr. Dowers was born in Olean, Ind. Oct. 8, 1851 and married Cora Bell Bushert in La Place in 1876. Mr. and Ms.Dowers celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last April. He lived in the Lake City vicinity most of his life retiring recently from farming. He was a member of the Lovington Methodist church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons,Arthur of Bethany,Elmer of Dunn Station and Jesse of Decatur, also three daughters ,Mrs. Minnie Cochran,Carlinville, Mrs Mary Mechegan of Sullivan and Mrs. Edith Jefferson,Bethany. There are 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Morans chapel with burial in at Marrowbone cemetery in Bethany.
