William Doig d. 1916 at Newport on Tay, Fife; his wife Elizabeth Hynd Ferrier (d. 1902 Newport on Tay) was dau of David Ferrier (b. 12nov1802 Dundee, draper, mercantile clerk) and Eliza Hynd (14feb1811 Dundee-13sep1874 13 Dudhope St., Dundee). The father of Eliza Hynd was mercht and shipowner in Dundee; he and all his sons were burgesses of Dundee (S. Robinson).

     In 1863 William was a chemist living at 21 Bucklemaker Wynd, Dundee. In 1881 William was a chemist and druggist in Dundee. In 1891 he lived in St. Mary, Dundee with his wife Eliza and children John, Catherine, and William. Later he moved to Dunira, West Newport, Forgan, Fife where he and Eliza lived in 1901. William belonged to the Wesleyan Church.

An extract of William's testament reads: William Doig, Chemist and Druggist, High Street, Dundee, late of Dunira, West Newport, died 6 December 1916, at West Newport, testate [Recorded in Forgan, Fife]. Conirmation granted at Cupar, 11 May 1917, to Cecilia Kerr or Doig, Dunira aforesaid, his widow, John Lyall Doig, Chemist and Druggist, Dundee, William Doig, jun., Chemist and Druggist, Newport, his sons, Alexander Masterson Dick, Craighelen, West Newport, his son-in-law, David Doig, Briarbank, American Muir Road, Downfield, Dundee, his brother, Charles Ferrier, Merchant, Firbank, Carnoustie, and Donald M'Intosh, Mill Manager, Torrvald, Clepington Road, Dundee, Executors nominated in Will or Deed, dated 25 February 1916, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Fife, 2 May 1917.
