Information on William Dickey

On 11-23-1786 William Dickey married Sarah McClellan. The marriage was performed by the aforementioned Rev. John King, pastor of the Upper West Conococheague Church, at Church Hill 2 mile east of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Sarah McClellan was born 2-06-l763, the daughter of John and Margaret McClellan. The McClellans had a family of eight children, whose names appear in John McClellan's will filed June in Will Book 2l, page 272, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Their names appear here for those with a specific interest in the McClellan families.

    William served in Fayette Co., Indiana as County Commissioner from 1827 to 1832 and was Sheriff from 1834 to 1838.

    William Dickey born 9-22-1756 in Derry Co., Ireland first located in Pennsylvania where he enlisted in the Cumberland Co., PA 4th Battalion commanded by Col. Samuel Culbertson 8-19-180, also served with Robert Means Co. 5th Regiment under James Purdy. After the war, William along with his wife Sarah McClellan born also in Ireland, located in Kentucky before coming to Fayette County, Indiana. The couple married in Pennsylvania on 23 November 1786 and together had 8 children.
