A "William Davis" is one of six selectmen of the town of Boston presented a report of "Practioners in Physics" concerning the "prevailing distemper in this place" The "distemper" started in Exeter "but no infection was observed to spread or catch in that Quarter of the Town" . The "Practiioners" judged it "to proceed from some occult quality in the air, and not from any obserable Infection communicable by Person or Goods"
