Is said to have removed with his brother John to Mecklenburg, and the census of 1782 shows there was a William Davis in that county the head of a family of 5 and 4 servants.
The Davis family of Spotsylvania are said to have been cousins of the several families of Davis living in Mecklenburg, prior to the settlement of John Davis in 1766.
The census of 1782 shows besides John and William Davis mentioned, there were
- Wm. Davis, justice of the county court, head of family of 9 with 45 servants;
- Baxter Davis family of 9 whites and 21 servants;
- Lewis Davis family of five;
- Edward Davis family of 4 and 13 servants;
- Joshua Davis, family of 7 whites and 13 servants.
