Hazeldene was the home of the Davies family, source for the following is the current owner Mr G.H.Vickeridge (Vic) and present occupier (October 1995).

Originally known as Hazeldene Farm Owner: Joseph Hall Gentleman, late of Ryall, will dated 1882, died 1888. His widow Susan Sophia Hall was left an annuity of £175 chargeable on the farm. She died 7 Oct 1911 at Rose Cottage, Upton. Left to nephew. Joseph Fountain Hall of Ripple (farmer) Died 25 Dec 1903. His widow was M.E.Hall.

Sold on 29 Sept 1910 William Davies For £1175, farmer of Northfield, Hanley Castle. A condition being that he continued to pay the annuity to S.S.Hall.

Hazeldene Farm then consisted of 20A 1r 15p. W. Davies mortgaged the property for £600 on 30 Dec 1914. Died 22 Feb 1916.

Margaret Davies Left to his widow Margaret for her lifetime. Son William Thomas Davies discharged the mortgage 23 May 1917. He died 22 Aug 1917.

Martha Davies Martha Davies, widow of W.T.Davies inherited and after a High Court hearing in Worcester sold on 21 Feb 1921 to Hon. Charlotte Francis Wilmot a house( the cottages?) and 18A 3r 17p of Hazeldene land. The property then became known as Hazeldene. The children of W.T and Martha Davies were William Myrddin, Annie Mary and Margaret Eveleyn. Martha Davies died at Hazeldene 28 July 1941.

Between the time of the land sale and 1938 the original deeds were lost but a copy of Abstract of Title was supplied by C.F.Wilmot's solicitors in 1938 on which this summary is based. Sold by W. M. Davies & W. Holloway 14 Oct 1941. William E Haywood Farmer, Bredon Fields, Strensham Bought for £1100.

Hazeldene then consisted of 1A 1r 38p. Sold to: Emma Proudlove (husband Charles Cecil, retired commercial traveller) Bought for £3,900 on 12 April 1947.

8 March 1948 wayleave for power line by SW&S ElectricPower Company. 30 June 1969 some land sold to the Min. of Transport to alter course of the main road leaving Hazeldene with 1A 1r 7p.

Emma Proudlove died 22 April 1979. Executors Gregory Render Proudlove and Greta Isobel Jessie Proudlove sold on 2 Aug 1979 for £35,000. G.H. & R.M.Vickeridge Purchasers as Beneficial Joint Tenants. The property was now known as Hazeldene House according to the deeds. Index entry in the Probate Register.

Transcript of William Davies' Will. This is the last Will and Testament of me, William Davies of Hazeldene Earls Croome in the County of Worcester, Farmer. I revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions made by me I appoint my dear wife Margaret Davies and my son William Thomas Davies (hereinafter called my Trustees) to be the joint Executors and Trustees of this my Will. I give and devise unto my Trustees all that dwellinghouse farm and land lately purchased by me situate and known as "Hazeldene" in the parish of Earls Croome in the County of Worcester and now occupied by me. To hold the same unto my Trustees in fee simple, upon trust, to raise by mortgage thereof the sum of One hundred pounds and to apply the income and interest arising therefrom for the benefit maintenance or advancement in life of my grand-daughter Catherine Mary Llewylla Davies, daughter of my son David Thomas Davies, and empower my Trustees to apply any part of the principal sum of One hundred pounds for the education or advancement in life of the said grand-daughter as they shall in their absolute discretion think best and upon the said grand-daughter attaining the age of twenty five years to pay to her any residue of the said sum of One hundred pounds or the said income thereof as shall remain in my Trustees hands. Provided always that should my said grand-daughter shall die before attaining the age of twenty five years any portion of the said sum of One hundred pounds or the income accrued therefrom as shall remain unexpended by my Trustees shall fall into and form part of my residuary estate. And subject to the said mortgage upon trust for my said son William Thomas Davies absolutely subject to his permitting my said wife Margaret Davies to reside therein rent free during her life. I give and bequeath my grandfather clock and my combined bookcase and desk to my son Thomas Davies. I give and bequeath all the rest of my household furniture and effects pictures, china, wearing apparel and articles of jewellery or personal adornment unto my said wife Margaret Davies. I give and bequeath all my books or library unto the Manor Dilo Reading Room in Llandilofaur Parish, Carmarthenshire. I give and bequeath all other real and personal estate of every nature and description not hereby otherwise disposed of unto my Trustees. Upon trust to sell call in and convert the same into money and thereout and out of my ready money to pay my funeral and testamentary expenses and just debts and to invest the residue remaining and to pay the interest and income arising therefrom to my said wife Margaret Davies during her life, such payments to be made quarterly on the usual quarter days. And upon the decease of my said wife Margaret Davies I give and bequeath and direct my Trustees to pay the following legacies namely to my son John Davies, Five pounds. To my son David Thomas Davies Five pounds and to pay the residue and remainder of my estate unto my son William Thomas Davies absolutely. Provided always that if my said son William Thomas Davies shall die in my lifetime or in the lifetime of my said wife Margaret Davies leaving a child or children who shall survive me and my said wife Margaret Davies and shall attain the age of twenty one years then such child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share which the said William Thomas Davies would have taken in the said residue and remainder of my said estate. I declare that the reason why I have made no pecuniary bequest in this my Will in favour of my son Thomas Davies is that I have given him a sum of money in my lifetime.
