Facts and Events
This William Davidson, husband of Mary (Polly) Dickey has been confused with General William Lee Davidson, who died in the Revolutionary War at the crossing of the Catawba in the pursuit of Cornwallis. (Wheeler's History of North Carolina). Family Tradition and genealogies have also claimed this to be true, but according to many sources including: (Davidson's of Western Tennessee Web Page, (http://www.genforum.com/davidson/messages/19.html); Anne Davidson Bartee's Davidson's Web Page, (http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/1512/two.htm); and The Family Tree Maker site of Scott Fraser, (http://www.familytreemaker.com, e-mail:sofraser@@aol.com), General William Lee Davidson, b. 1746 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, married MARY BREVARD, b. 16 June, 1748, Rowan County, North Carolina, d. 1824, Logan County, Kentucky. William Davidson, husband of Mary Dickey, was born c1761 (some say c1755), and died 25 February, 1803. He is the son of George Davidson and Catharine Penelope Reese. Some say that William Davidson's middle name was also "Lee", which if true, may explain some of the confusion between the two.
