Facts and Events
According to his grandson, Thomas Alton Butler, William was a fox hunter and the Collins family was "big in church" and very musical, singing Sacred Harp music. "I found sometime ago when cleaning out Mothers house, some papers where she had paid $74.20 in 4 payments of $18.55 for grave markers for William Fish Collins and his wife Martha Jane Goodman Collins. The bill was from Ingram Memorial Co. of Enterprise, Alabama dated April 12, 1976. Mother never made over $5.00 an hour but it was important to her to keep her parents and grandparents memories alive. Mother's other grandmother's name was Martha A. Collins so she made a mistake and put Mattie A. Collins on the marker by mistake. It should have been Martha J. "Mattie" Collins. Both of her grandmothers were Mattie's so she was confused when placing the grave markers order... William Fish Collins b. May 19, 1849 d. Aug. 08, 1919 b.
