William Chumbley was the third of eleven children born to Mary Ann Doss and John Archibald Chumley. He was born in September, 1850 in Dog Town, Tennessee. The family moved to Gasconade County, Missouri and later to White County, Arkansas. He married Susan Price in December, 1880. They had two children: Christopher and Zee. William was Postmaster in McRae, AR in 1890-1892 and again in 1896-1897. William was issued a land patent on 80 acres in White County, Arkansas in 1892. He was a member of the McRae Strawberry Association. William Chumbley died in February, 1904 at the age of 53.
