William Cebolt enlisted as a Private on 9 October 1863 at the age of 27 in Company D, 54th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on 9 Oct 1863. William received a disability discharge from the same unit on 29 May 1865 at Saint Andrew's Parish, SC. Denzel Washington made a movie titled "Glory" about the 54th Mass Infantry Regiment Massachusetts. William was not in either of the companies that sustained heavy casualties in the assault on Fort Wagner near Charleston, SC.
