In tribute: William Raford Carroll, a life long resident of Fayette County, Illinois, died at his home in Seminary Township, Thursday night, Sept. 12, 1918, from stomach trouble, of which he had suffered for many years. For two years he has been gradually failing, but was confined to his bed for only a few weeks.

Uncle Bill Carroll was married in 1861 to Mary Ann Evans, who died in 1874, leaving him with six children, the youngest, Ollie, being just one year old when her mother died. He lost 3 boys, Charles, John, and Robert, within about 3 years time, all dying in their youth. He was united in marriage in 1895 to Florence Adline Moore, who with his three daughters, Idena Chandler, Laura Howell and Ollie Bone were at his bedside through sickness and death. Besides his faithful and devoted wife and daughters, he leaves to mount his loss, two brothers, James M. of Villa Grove, Il, and Andrew Jackson Carroll of Vandalia.
