Did William Bybee marry Alice “Alie” Hays in Barren County, Kentucky?

The Marriage of this William Bybee and Alice “Alie” Hays is widely reported on various internet sites. There seems to be no documentation to indicate that this marriage is the correct one for my William Bybee, Sr. The children of William are well documented but, there is no assurance that they are the children of Alice “Alie" Hayes Bybee. The only definitive source of this marriage is from a book, "History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family," by Alpheus H. Harlan, Originally printed Baltimore 1914AEH-BK-162. The book does not give it's source.

A recorded deed in Green Co., Kentucky details the sale of livestock and household goods of William Bybee. William Bybee sold most of his livestock and household furniture on 16 March 1834 to F.G. Graham, the pastor that will marry Pleasant Bybee and Mary Henry on 25 Jan 1844. The deed also mentions notes due Edwin Lewis, F.G. Graham for cash loans and to James Peace for property purchase and a future foal sired by Andy Hawkins' stallion.

1838-1843 -- Green Co., KY

Looks like William Bybee, Sr. died in this time period. Most likely William Bybee, Sr died just before the sale of his livestock and household goods noted above on March 1838. Although at this time it is possible that he was the William Bybee who signed Jemima’s marriage bond.

US Census Needs to be checked for Head of Households

1843, October 20- Green Co., KY

Jemima Bybee marries William L Elmore. William and Clarenda Bybee sign consent for marriage of Jemima Bybee. LD-107 Jemima is 17 years old. This William and Clarenda could well be older siblings of Jemima Bybee, rather than parents as originally thought. Jemima’s brother, William Bybee, Jr., if born September 1823, would only be 20 at this time and sister, Clarenda would be 25.

1844-1845

It would seem that William L Elmore either died or divorced Jemima Bybee at sometime in this period

Clarenda Bybee Akin gives birth to her 1st child, Samuel Anderson Alfred Demadison Akin

1847, October 13 -- Green Co., KY

Elizabeth Bybee[1] marries William Holmes in Green County, Kentucky on October 16, 1847. Elizabeth's brother Pleasant Bybee swears in her Marriage bond that she is 21 years old. Other sources indicate that she was only 18 year old. William Bybee, Sr. DID NOT sign for consent for Elizabeth's marriage. Her brother, Pleasant's action on the bond also concurs with other sources indicating that her father, William Bybee, had already died in about 1838.
