•Note: William Burk was appointed constable of Giles County in 1807. His wife, Margaret Harless was a granddaughter of Henry Williams, immigrant from Germany of John Philip Harless and his wife Margaret Price, who was a daughter of Johann Heinrich Preuss. William and Margaret Burk removed in 1823 to Indiana. They were buried in Union Chapel Cemetery, Warren County, IN. According to markers at their graves, William died Sep. 11, 1852 aged 84 years, 11 months; Margaret died March 4, 1845, aged 77 years 8 months. According to a record from the Bible of their son John Burk, William was born June 14, 1769; Margaret, March 26, 1776. In the case of William, this date is incorrect, as shown not only by his grave stone, but also by Montgomery County tax lists, which show definitely that he was born at least as early as 1767.
