William's parents were Richard BURGESS and Johanna SAUNDERS. William, and John BURGESS and Vivian NASH, were Pioneer Settlers at remote Sulphur Creek near Penguin, Tasmania, from 1857. After William's first wife, Sarah JARMAN, died following the birth of Walter, their ninth child, he married Sarah Jane NASH, the 17 year old daughter of his neighbour, and they had 11 children.

1895 - William died of Natural causes - not stated. The death informant was Thomas FRASER, nephew, Stanley.
