Our Bryant line has an interesting twist. I tried for years to find Delilah's parents. Finally did. They were William Bryant and Elizabeth (prob. nee Rowland) (wid. of John Fearrington/Farrington of Brunswick Co., Va.) Our William and Elizabeth married, evidently in Brunswick as she was living there.
In mid 1760's Wm and friend John Herndon and families left Brunswick and took up land across state line at confluence of Tabb and Ruin creeks in Granville Co., NC (deeds there).
In ca 1773 Wm was murdered as he sat in his own doorway by a slave from the farm on one side of him as he (continued) to cross Wm's land to see his wf/girlfriend who was slave of Pomfrett Herndons on the farm on otherside. This was an ongoing problem and no doubt words had flown more than once. So Ned stole a gun from Pomfrett (came out at trial) did Wm in and then disappeared.
An almost 100 year old descendant in Texas said she has an old letter that said the slave was finally found hiding under the Bryant house. Ned was burned publically until "consumed". In Oxford, I suppose, although there is/was a crossroads near the Bryant land called Kittrell so maybe there but doubt it as not large enough to draw much of a crowd. Plus, no court house or jail there. (Rowland Bryant's guardian was Jonathan Kittrell, and Row. m. a Kittrell, Jon's dau., I think
) The trail is in abstract court book at library, in Granville co. Also mentioned in one of the Colonial Records of NC books. There are two absolutely PROVEN children of Wm and Elizabeth Bryant as guardian had to be appointed for Wm's son Rowland Bryant and dau. our Delilah (guardian papers are at NC Archives.)
Martha, wf of Pomfrett Herndon, no doubt a dau. also, as they named a child Elizabeth Bryant Herndon. Elizabeth also had a dau. by 1st marriage, Elizabeth Fearrington who m. a Burnett and lived in Chatham Co. At some time close after the murder Elizabeth joined her own son John Fearrington in Chatham Co. (gorgeous old ho use). Perry gives marriage date of our Delilah and John Stroud at the home of John ..... It should be Fearrington or Farrington but either Octavia misread or is a typo. Can't recall first letter she had in her book but think it reads Tarrington or similar, which is incorect.
Had a (named) Baptist minister (in same bk. and page) to perform the ceremony. Elizabeth Bryant died testate leaving Delilah "chex sheets"! She probably lived the remained or her life with son John Fearrington as she left just bedroom things. Mother: Elizabeth, maiden name probably Rowland After Delilah's father, William Bryant, was murdered by a neighbor's slave, Christopher Robinson/Robertson, of Granville, was appointed as the guardian of Delilah, and Jonathan Kittrell as the guardian of her brother Rowland.
Delilah removed from Granville County to Chatham County by 1771 with her mother, Elizabeth Bryant, and half siblings Elizabeth and John Fearrington. John Fearrington is listed as a member of the Chatham County Militia in 1771. Our Bryant line was in Brunswick co. until ca 1764 then to Granville Co., NC. William Bryant (had sons Wm and Roland) was murdered by a neighbors slave in Granville ca 1772/3. His wife and several of the younger children went to Chatham Co. (formed from Orange in 1772) as wifes son by previous marriage lived there. He was John Fearrington.

- Note: Elizabeth Bryant (1726-1821) that married Jonathan Kittrell would have been too old to have been a daughter of this William Bryant. William would have been only 13 years old at her birth. If Elizabeth was related to this William Bryant, perhaps she was a younger sibling, but this needs additional research/source to prove any suspected relationship.
