The Rippey department of the Jefferson Souvenir contains this notice of the death of Mrs. Carl McLuen's father: "Died, in Rippey, Sunday evening, October 22, William H. Broadlick, aged 68 years, 1 months and 6 days. Deceased was born in Cornwell, England, and came to America when a young man. He was united in marriage to Nannie Semmons in 1864, and removed to Iowa in 1871. Eight children were born to them, two of whom are dead. Two are married, the oldest daughter, Mrs. C.R. McLuen, resides in Perry, and a son, William H., lives in Kansas. About two weeks before his death he was removed to the home of Mr. Dan Murphy in East Rippey. His daughter Jennie remained with him and assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Murphy did all that could be done to make his last days comfortable. He passed away Sunday evening just as the church bells rang. The funeral services were held on Monday in the Christian church, and were conducted by Rev. B.F. Miller, pastor of the Dunkard church at Dallas Center, Mr. Broadlick's religious belief being in accordance with the Dunkard faith. He was an honest, upright man and many of his neighbors and friends gathered to sympathize with the living and pay their last tribute to respect to the dead.
