"The Bretts were an old family of Bridgewater, Mass. William3 Brett (Nathaniel2, William1), born at Bridgewater, 26 Apr. 1702, married there, 15 May 1732, Bethia Kingsley. He removed to Norwich, Conn., where on 8 July 1745 he purchased 204 acres of land on Pautipaug Hill, now in Franklin, Conn. In the Pautipaug Burying Ground there is a stone with the inscription: Mrs. Bethia Brett, wife to Mr. William Brett, died April 10, 1763, in the 58th year of her age. The footstone says, 'The First Parson buried Hear.' The Death Book of the 8th or Pautipaug Society, contains the entry: 'January the 19 A D 1795 Died William Britt in the 94 year of his age.' He had married second, 11 July 1765, Lydia (Wood) Story. She was born at Norwich, 26 July 1720, daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (Rudd) Wood, and had married first, 6 Oct. 1741, Stephen Story, Jr."
