His father, Lemuel, died about June 30, 1861 as a Pvt. Co. B, 3rd La Infantry. It is believed that mother, Missouri, also died about the same time. His sister died in a fire at about 8 years of age. William was taken in and reared by his grandparents: Thomas & Rosa Boyter. You will find them in Jasper County Ms 1860(#491) and in Davis County, Texas in 1870(#18).

William Ambers Boyter lived in Cass County, Texas, Texarkana, Texas and Bienville Parish, Louisiana. He was first married to Amanda Shipp and second to Rebecca M. Crudup. He had the following children: Rosa Lane, Maude, Minnie, James Hill, William Thomas and Robin Elisha.
