    "Judge BLACK DEAD; Died at his home near Craddock, in Phelps County, Missouri, March 20th, 1897, at 12 o'clock (noon), Judge William BLACK aged seventy-eight years, three months and three days.
    Brother BLACK was born in Greene County, East Tennessee, December 17th, 1818, where he was raised by his parents. At the age of eighteen years he commenced teaching school and taught many years both in Tennessee and Missouri. August 18th, 1841, in Tennessee he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann HURLEY who survives him. In 1843 with his wife and one child he came to what is now Phelps County, Missouri, and settled on the farm where he has lived until death called him to that better home on high."
