In 1541, Sir William Bermingham was created Baron of Carbury: Grant to Sir William Bermingham and the heirs male of his body, of the title and dignity of Baron of Carbury, in the County of Kildare; with a grant of the site of the late priory of Ballybogan and the late abbey of Clonard, with all the messuages adjacent, etc. ( Pat.
