Some general facts on William John Barkle. He usually wore a bowler hat and had a walrus moustache. He worked as a stone mason, he built bridges on the Newquay to Chacewater railway line. If he came home drunk he would throw his hat in first, if it came back out again he had to spend the night in the shed. He carried a pasty to work in his pocket and a flask of cold tea. Often ate the pasty on returning home. He died 3 days after refusing to see a doctor. He stood out in the back garden to avoid the Doctor. (Pre NHS) He was a stubborn man.
