From "and they came to mara...", p. 42: "The Barker family had made a home in Brock Township by the early 1840' s, for that was the alleged birhplace of Joseph and Richard. William, Mar garet and children were enumerated in the 1861 Brock census. On 7 May, 1862, William BARKER, shoemaker of Mara, purchased part of the E ast 1/2 of LOT 11 CON 3 from Michael McGrath, inkeeper of Mara. In 186 6, William BARKER, late of the Township of Mara, died in Brock Townshi p. At the time of his death, he had a fixed place of abode in Mara. Willi am's property was sold to Michael Conway of Whitby, on 23 January, 1869. By 1871, Mrs. William BARKER, believed to be a native of County Down, Irel and, was living in Mara with her sons Thomas and Joseph, and (Margaret/Mar yann), who was probably her daughter. References
