Va., m (by John Coons) 26 Dec 1798 Shenandoah Co., Va., Mary Hess, b 22 Jan 1/78 Shenandoah Co., d 26 June 1849 Monongalia Co., (W.) Va., dau. of Abraham and Mary Hess, and sister of Anna Hess [x631. Both bur. Fisher Cem., National, Grant dist., Monongalia Co. "William Barb married against his father's wishes and went West to locate a home, but not finding anything better than was in their native state, returned..." Ill feelings were endured for many years, and about 1816 he and his family removed from Shenandoah Co. to Monongalia Co. settling on 100 a. on Flaggy Meadow Run, Grant dist., five miles west of Morgantown. "William was industrious & improved his farm & gathered many comforts about him for his family. He was a man of large muscular frame, well-balanced mind, pleasant & lively disposition. When 67 yrs. of age he joined the Baptist church of which he was a devout member until his death." (O.A.M.) In July 1850, after his wife's death, William Barb removed with his son Peter to Lewis Co., (W.) Va., with addresses in Jane Lew and Mercerville, then residing in a part of that county which was later to become Upshur Co.
