William Fyfield Badcock is registered as the son of Elizabeth Welsh but in fact was born to his eldest sister, Mary. Mary would have been 15 years old when he was concieved. Presumably to avoid the scandal of an illegitimate birth, Mary's parents apparently chose to register him as their child. Mary eventually married the father of William and went on to have 5 more children. (From information supplied by close relatives).
