    QuWilliam Armistead was the son of Anthony Armistead and Hannah Ellyson.[1]

    Positions and Property
    William served in 1693 and in 1702 as Burgess, and in 1695 as as High Sheriff.[1]

    Marriages: William married twice. [perhaps three times based upon birthyears of two sons]

    He married on 20 November 1696, as his 1st, to Hannah Hinde (born Jul 01, 1673), daughter of Thomas Hinde and Hannah (Unknown) Hind.[1]
    He married in 1704, as his 2nd, and as her 1st, to Rebecca Moss, daugher of Edward Moss, J.P. of York County, who was son of Edward Moss, the immigrant.[2]

    Land Grants
    Captain William Armistead received land grants in 1696, for 130 acres , 125 acres in 1700 , 200 acres in 1713, 9 poles in 1720 , In Elizabeth City , Virginia.[3]

    In 1696, William Armistead (son of Capt. Anthony Armistead, and grandson of William, the emigrant) sold to Henry Brooks, mariner, thirty-three and two-third acres on the east side of Hampton River, "fronting over against Hampton Town, adjoining the Glebe land, and first granted to Henry Hawley" (who came to Virginia in 163, aged thirty-four years).[4]
    Death and Legacy
    William's will was written on 5 Jan 1714 and was proved on 18 January 1715 probated on 18 Feb 1715 at Elizabeth City County, Colony of Virginia.[5]

    Orders 1715-21, Elizabeth City. p.21, Petition of Thomas, an Indian man, suing Execs of Willm. Armistead gent dec'd for his freedom ... it appears to the Ct. that the Indian was sold but for thirty-one years and it also appears that the time is expired. Ordered that the Indian be set free.[6]

    William Armistead, was son of Anthony Armistead and his wife Hannah Ellyson. He resided in Elizabeth City county, and was major in the militia, high sheriff of Elizabeth City county (1693) and a justice. He was burgess from Elizabeth City county in the assembly of 1696-1697, and in the sessions of May 13 and Jun 18 1702, Oct 25, 1710, and Nov 16, 1714. He married several times. His first wife was Hannah, born 1 Jul 1673, daughter of Thomas Hinde (or Hine) by his wife Hannah. Maj. Armistead's last wife was Rebecca, daughter of Edward Moss, J. P. of York county. Maj. Armistead's will is dated 4 Jan (year blank) and Probated Feb 17, 1715/16. Virginia Biography, pg 173.
