From Rockport: The Making of a Tourist Treasure, by Eleanor C. Parsons (1998), comes the story of the romance of Mary Andrews and Stephen [ ]. About Mary's family it is said that her grandfather William had traveled from Ipswich to the Halibut Point/Andrews Point area on Cape Ann around 1701. William joined his sisters, Margaret, wife of Samuel Gott, and Elizabeth, wife of Joshua Norwood. Samuel Gott sold William 18 acres "by the cove usually called Hoop Pole Cove." William ultimately acquired a total of 55 acres, "enough to enable him to marry Elizabeth Curtis of Ipswich." When their estate was later divided, the land was divided among the three children, and their son Jonathan (father of Mary) got Andrews Point.
