He went by the name of 'Garett' in his adult life, but I located 'William G. Abshier' in the 1870 census of Luce Twp., Spencer County, IN. It was a little bit of a 'stretch' to assume that the 'G' in Wm G. was the Garett that I had looked so hard for. I later found his marriage record to Florence Brown on Ancestry.com, where his name was listed as 'William G. Abshire'. This was the connection between the young William G. and the adult Garett Abshier that I needed.

According to the 1910 U.S. Census, Garett Abshier's wife was named Florence, and her maiden name was later found to be 'Brown'. Garett does not appear in the 1920 US census, but his wife Florence does, in Pigeon Twp., Evansville, Vanderburgh Co. IN. Daughters Georgia, Lana, Sylvia & Hazel M. also appear. Florence has no occupation listed, and she appears to rent with three other families at the residence.
