BURLINGTON— Wiley Baxter Thomas, 77, of 4258 Kimesville Road, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Carrie Shoffner Thomas, who survives, and the son of the late Wiley Edward Thomas and the late Coral Elizabeth Moore Thomas. He was retired from P. Lorillard and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Survivors other than his wife of the home, include four daughters, Mrs.. Frances Sharon (Tom) Newnam of Wake Forest, Ms. Ann Thomas Whitworth of Owings, Md., Mrs.. Beth Thomas (Von) Graves of Burlington, and Mrs.. Myra Thomas (Daryle) Smith of Danville, Va.; a sister, Mrs.. Margaret Virginia Thomas Sykes of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Robert Lee Thomas of Pleasant Grove, and Mr. Hobart Tyson Thomas of Hillsborough; and eight grandchildren, Shannon B. Graves-King, James Thomas Newnam III, Justin Von Graves, Jennifer Lea Newnam, Brian Michael Whitworth, Emily Ann Whitworth, Logan Thomas Smith, and Carrie Virginia Smith. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Miss Mable Thomas; and a brother, Mr. James Nelson Thomas. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. W.N. “Bill” Hoss, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs.. Beth Thomas (Von) Graves of 2630 Jacobs Trail, Burlington.
