In Waterford, Ct., on the 22d inst., Welcome S. Wells, son of Matthew Wells, Jr of this town [DeRuyter, NY], in the 28th year of his age. The deceased with his family, left home some weeks since on a visit to the East, and was taken sick there and died. We make the following extract from a letter addressed to the father of the deceased, by Br. H. H. Baker: "It becomes my painful duty to announce to you, that Welcome is no more. He died yesterday morning at half past 4 o'clock. His symptoms became alarming some two days before his death, and gave evidence that he soon must leave. The disease was typhus fever. His funeral was attended at the church today, at 11 o'clock, and Eld. Campbell preached from the text, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." A more solemn and affecting time I never knew in my life. Everything that friends could do was done for his comfort. He died at the house of Dea. David Rogers. His last hours were peaceful, and not a doubt of his acceptance was left behind."
