[edit] ObituaryWAYLAND HUBERT TEMPLE September 22, 1920 - Janury 16, 2012 Wayland was born at his parent's home, north of Mansfield, Ohio, September 22, 1920. His dad, Ethan Temple Sr., worked for land owners as a farmer. Some time following his birth, his parents moved to Union County near Richwood, Ohio where he and his two brothers would grow up. In the fall of his tenth grade year, Wayland left school to assist with the farming during a time when his dad was ill. He never went back to school but would continue farming until 1956 when he left the fields to begin employment with Whirlpool Corporation at Marion, Ohio. He would continue work in manufacturing for 27 years until he retired in 1983. In the summer of 1941, at age 21, Wayland agreed to a blind date with Mildred Fischer of Waldo, Ohio. He was immediately taken up with Millie and would travel two times per week from Richwood to see her. Their courtship ended in marriage on April 22, 1942. In there early years of marriage, like many others of that time, they lived in a house with no electricity or indoor plumbing. After three years of marriage, they moved to the farm next to where Millie had grown up. They were a blessing to one another in marriage covenant for just four months short of seventy years. Two sons...were born to Wayland and Millie just fifteen months apart. Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren have been added to their family to date. All the family members remember the warm welcome, the great times of interaction and the tender, loving goodbyes mom and dad always provided. Wayland was active in service to his community. He served on the Waldo Local School Board for eight years, and was among the founding members of the Whirlpool Credit Union (now First Resource). He was a member of the Marion County Health Board for 13 years and a Waldo Township trustee for 12 years. Wayland and Millie delivered mobile meals together for 14 years. Church was a top priority for Wayland. His sons do not remember a time when their dad balked at attending worship gatherings. He was always among the first to volunteer when there was work to be done on the church building or grounds. He was a member of the Waldo United Methodist Church for over 65 years. Wayland will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Mildred Temple of Waldo; two sons...; six grandchildren...; 10 great grandchildren; a brother...; and numerous nieces and nephews. Included his parents, Wayland was preceded in death by his brother, Malen Carter; his sister, Eleanor Temple; and his sister-in-law, Elsa Temple. The Temple family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating his entrance into Heaven will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Waldo United Methodist Church, 141 S. Marion St., Waldo, with the Rev. Mary E. Sandberg officiating. His family will again greet friends for the hour prior to his services at the church. Burial will then follow in Waldo Cemetery. References
