Warren R. "Bob" Cookson, a long time resident of Janesville, was called home to be with our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on Feb. 10, 1936, to the late Eunice and Adrian Cookson. At the age of 16, Bob enlisted in the Army and served two terms with an honorable discharge on Dec. 31, 1961. Bob was proud to have served his country and to be a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. A few years later, Bob met and married Jeanette "Ned" Fischer on Sept. 25, 1965, in St Patrick Catholic Church and they had two children. March 28, 1968, Bob was employed by General Motors of Janesville, serving 31 years and retiring from GM on April 1, 1999. Bob had a love and respect of his guns and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, but his true love, pride and joy were his grandchildren! Up until his passing, Bob was the primary day care to his younger grandchildren. Over the many years he had taught and helped with the raising of his grandchildren to be the young women and boys they are today; teaching and educating them about Military, guns, life in the 50's 60's and much, much more. Bob was a great father and devoted grandfather, who will be missed greatly by his family and friends. "Thank you Dad for all the great memories and we will miss you more than the words could ever say!! We Love you Dad" - Bobby and Anita.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert "Bobby" (Denise) Cookson; and daughter, Anita (Christopher) Lloyd; his two granddaughters, Courtney(21), McKayla(19); three grandsons: Bailey(11), Caleb(10), Evan(8); and great-grandson, Keaton (2), all of Janesville; two sisters, Dorris (Leonard) D'Angelo of Milton, and Aletha Ash of Janesville; plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette "Ned" Cookson; parents, Eunice and Adrian Cookson; four brothers: Wayne Cookson, Gerald "Jerry" Cookson, Richard "Dick" Cookson, Ralph Cookson; and one sister, Winifred "Winnie" Schmidt.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 210 S. Ringold Ave., with Rev. Daniel Decker officiating.
