Wanda Lee Spinder Nielson 1926 ~ 2004 KAYSVILLE - Wanda Lee Spinder Nielson was born March 2, 1926 in Midvale, Utah to Fredrick and Elizabeth (Kate) Spinder. She passed away June 20, 2004. Growing up in Midvale, she moved to Leamington as a teenager where she met the love of her life. She married Merritt A. Nielson on March 28, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a youthful 78 at the time of her death. Mom was heavily involved in all of her family's lives. As her children grew, she adapted herself to their needs. She was part of the PTA for numerous schools and was the PTA President for Kaysville Elementary and Burton Elementary. She was instrumental in the lives of many young men through scouting and in 1975 she received the Silver Beaver Award from BSA in recognition of her many years of dedicated service. She worked in scouting on many levels from teaching merit badge classes to district level. There are hundreds of scouts and dozens of Eagle Scouts in east Kaysville that remember her help with fondness and appreciation. Mom loved any activity that included her family. We spent many summers camping and water skiing at Pineview, Bear Lake, Smith and Moorehouse and anywhere else they could tow their fifth wheel. Mom taught most of east Kaysville to water ski. She spent hours standing in the water yelling, Keep your knees bent! Mom loved family parties, her cats and all of her many church and camping friends. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Gospel and the hope that the love of Christ brings to all people. She had many church callings and persevered to the end. One of her last concerns was making sure that her visiting teaching got finished. She understood the importance of finishing her test. She left a legacy of six children, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grand-children. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Merritt Allen Nielson, her children Susan (Ed) Willden of Layton; Bruce Nielson of Clearfield; Jill Nielson of Kaysville; Kelly (Terrie) Nielson and Jeffrey (Teresa) Nielson of Syracuse; one sister, Betty (Bob) McBratney of Conrad, Montana. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, both of her brothers, John Spinder and Jim Spinder, and one daughter, Merrilee Warner. Services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 6th East and 2nd South. Friends may call Wednesday, June 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the Stake Center.
