Your Walter McDowell of Monroe Co, VA was named as the father of a child of a Nancy Winkleblack in 1815 in Monroe Co, VA. I know he married Patsy Pritt, but this lady who is a descendant of the child in question has both names on the death certificate of her greatgrandmother who lived to be 100 (died in 1915). THere were only two Nancy Winkleblacks in Monroe Co, VA that I know of, one was born in 1815 (obviously not the mother) and the widow of Philip Winkleblack. Does you family have any stories or information to add to this mystery? The child was named McDowell and always lived with her Winkleblack relatives as they moved to OH and IN. I have not been able to reconcile that this Walter McDowell was the father. I can't find any likely Winkleblack family lady to be the prospective mother either.
