Obituary from Sullivan County Democrat, September 11, 2007 Walter Lowerre Member, Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #19, 94 Walter Lowerre of Middetown, a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 94. The son of the late Charles and Bertha Swarthout Lowerre, he was born on May 3, 1913 in Middletown. He was a past grand officer of the Greene-Ulster Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Hoffman Masonic Lodge. Walter was the last surviving charter member of the Circleville Fire Department, past captain of the Circleville Fire Police, and a member of both the Orange County Volunteer Fire Association and the Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 19. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris, at home; one son, Richard and his wife Carrie; two daughters, Patricia Lambach of Brooksville, FL, and Barbara Piper of Wurtsboro; and seven granchildren, Lori, Nancy, Ann, Vivian, June, Patrick and Andrew and eight great-grandchildren. Walter was predeceased by his first wife, Olive Cordier; two sisters, Edith Aschoff and Alberta Bomgardner; one brother, Winiford, and one great-grandchild, Jacob. A funeral service was held Thursday, September 6, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, followed by services by The Order of the Eastern Star and the Hoffman Masonic Lodge. Garett Vandershaff and the Circleville Fire Department conducted a firematic service of remembrance at the funeral home. Cremation will be private, at the convenience of the family.
