Sacred to the memory of Doctor Walter Ewing Johnston. Born in the city of Charleston So. Ca. on the 4th of August 1816. Died at his residence Alta Vista in this county on the 22nd of July 1839. Aged 43. Gifted with a brilliant intellect and blessed with every advantage of a classical education, he graduated at an early age with the highest honours of the University of Pennsylvania. He was eminently successful in the treatment of diseases, social, generous, and manly. His kindness and charity knew no bounds, void of all guile and selfishness, it is no eulogy to say he was an honest man. But the crowning glory of his life was his humble and full belief in the Sacred Scriptures and from reliance on their blessed promises.
