1914-22 - Recorded in Australian Electoral Roll as Walter Joseph BRYAN, Abbotsham, Tasmania, teacher [with wife]. 1928 - Recorded in Australian Electoral Roll as Walter Joseph BRYAN, Forth Rd, Ulverstone, Tasmania, teacher. 1936-43 - Recorded in Australian Electoral Roll as Walter Joseph BRYAN, Forth Rd, Ulverstone, Tasmania, accountant. 1947 - Burial indexed as Walter Joseph BRYAN, aged 76, at General Section, Ulverstone Cemetery. From Launceston Examiner 26/7/1947: OBITUARY: Mr. W. J. Bryan Mr. Walter Joseph Bryan who died at his residence at Ulverstone, at the age of 70 years was interred at the Ulverstone Cemetery on Tuesday. Born at Oxford, England, in 1870 Mr. Bryan matriculated at Oxford University, where he served a period as a lecturer. He was also a sub-editor on the staff which compiled the English Oxford Dictionary. Mr. Bryan came to Tasmania in 1802, and shortly afterwards joined the Education Department, teaching at the Glengarry, Flowerdale and Abbotsham schools. After about 40 years he retired, and lived at Ulverstone. Mrs. Bryan died about 21 years ago. He was an elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and superintendent of the Ulverstone Presbyterian Sunday school for many years. He leaves a family of three daughters and four sons Miss. W. Bryan, Mesdames A. R. Parsons and IM. D. von Bibra (Ulverstone), and Messrs. C. F. Bryan (Bothwell), R. U. Bryan (Ulverstone), 8. H. Bryan (Victoria) and C. W. Bryan (Tarraleah). Rev. S. Chant conducted the services at the residence and grave side. |
