RAVENA -- Walter H. Banta died suddenly Thursday, February 13, 1997. He was 53. Walter was born in Coxsackie and had lived in Ravena for four years. He was a 1961 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Phoenix University in Arizona. Walter was a housing management representative for the New York State Dept. of Housing and Community Revitalization for eight years. He was a past member of the Coxsackie Fire Co. and Rescue Squad and a current member of the Ravena Rescue Squad. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mink Banta of Ravena; one daughter, Jennifer Banta of New York City; a step-son, Donald Hotaling II and his wife, Elisa of Rome, NY; a step-daughter, Janis Lucas of Cincinnati, OH; his mother, Dorothy Banta of Coxsackie; three grandchildren, Christopher Lee Hotaling, Donald Hotaling III, and Lora Lucas, and many friends. Funeral services will be held 3:00 Saturday afternoon at the Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Ave., Ravena. Burial will be in the spring in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.
