The Sate - 29 Dec 1894 "A False Accusation Mr. Wade Leaphart Charged with House-Breaking, But Discharged. Mr. Wade Leaphart, a prominent citizen, merchant and postmaster, at Lewedale, S. C. was arrested on Monday last by Constable Brunson and incarcerated in Lexington jail on the charge of breaking into the dispensary at Lewedale. After a preliminary examination before Trial Justice Muller at Lexington on Thursday last, Mr. Leaphart was entirely exonorated [sic] and was discharged. He was represented by Messrs. J. Brooks Wingard and A. M. Boozer. The State was represented by G. T. Graham, Esq. The testimony against Mr. Leaphart was the flimsiest character, and many of his friends are naturally indignant that a citizen, bearing a character for strict integrity, should thus be subjected to humiliation. Some of then say it is political prosecution. Mr. Leaphart is an outspoken conservative."

The Sate - 13 Nov 1920 “Wade Leaphart Dies Funeral to Be Held at Residence on High Street Today Wade Leaphart of Shandon, traveling salesman, died yesterday morning at the Baptist hospital following a short illness. Mr. Leapart was 65 years old and a resident of Columbia for many years. He was an active member of the Main Street Methodist church and a man of sterling Christian character. Mr. Leaphart’s business connnections have carried him all over South Carolina dn into neighboring states, where he has made countless friends. He was also well known in commercial travelers’ organization circles. His is survived by his wife, three sons, John W. Leaphart, A. F. Leaphart and T. G. Leaphart, all of Colombia and two daughters, Mrs. J. M. Johns of Jessup, Ga., and Miss Julia Leaphart of Columbia. The funeral will be held at the residence, 821 High street this morning at 11 o’clock, the Rev. R. S. Truesdale, paster of the Main street services. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.”
