Vivienne Marie Day was born June 15, 1924 in Waterloo, Iowa to Florence Thompson Day and Dorr Holton Day. Florence and Dorr divorced May 27, 1929 and Florence was granted custody of Vivienne and her older sister, Nina. They lived for a short time in Blue Earth, Minnesota where Florence waited tables at a boarding house. Later they relocated to Monona, Iowa after Florence remarried in 1930. After her first year of college, Vivienne moved to Detroit, Michigan to live with her father and attend the University of Detroit. She met her husband, Marshall, after his return from World War II, through his sister who was a classmate at the university. They were married February 15, 1947 and his career as an Army officer took them to Kansas, Germany, Indiana, Colorado, Kentucky, and Texas, where Marshall retired in 1964. He was working as a District Parole Office in Austin when he died in 1975. Vivienne graduated with an undergraduate degree in elementary education and special education and a master's degree in education psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. As a state and nationally certified counselor and licensed associate psychologist, she worked in the public schools for 18 years. Vivienne was an avid gardener, artist, and quilter. Vivienne was survived by her six children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Image Gallery
