  2. Virginia Irene Nebbeling (Bengtson), age 86, of Lowell, went home to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Ginny was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great nana, sister, and friend. Always willing to help and serve others, she leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity. Born and raised in Ludington, Michigan, she came to Grand Rapids to study cosmetology and met her future husband, John. During WWII, she owned a beauty salon in Ludington until John's return from the war. They married in January of 1946 and settled in the Grand Rapids area. She found great joy in being a homemaker and mother to her three children. She worked in later years at Jacobson's and the Lowell Public Schools upon retiring to her home on Murray Lake. She was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. She was sadly preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Purcell and great-granddaughter, Alexis Veersma. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; her son-in-law, Michael Purcell of Spring Lake, her daughter, Deborah (Richard) Veersma of Rockford; her son, John (Rhonda) Nebbeling of Grand Rapids; seven adored grandchildren, Deborah and Paul Andre, Kristin Purcell and Katie Purcell, Brian and Vicki Veersma, Jennifer and Rich Peckover, Jon and Heidi Nebbeling, and Jason Nebbeling; eight cherished great-grandchildren, Amanda, Scott, Markelle, and Julia Peckover, Trinity and Mattie Nebbeling, Kaylee Veersma, and baby Andre due in March of 2008; her brother, Carl (Jean) Bengtson; brother-in-law, Cornelius Nebbeling; sisters-in-law, Lillian Nebbeling and Pauline Leversay; her aunt, Lorraine Keson; many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service in celebration of Ginny's life will be at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2007 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 3214 Four Mile, NE, Grand Rapids, MI with The Rev. Franklin Rothfuss officiating. Inurnment will be in Plainfield Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Pastor's Discretionary Fund at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
