Mrs. Woodruff Dies In Atlanta Remains to be Brought to Columbus for Burial - Much Beloved Woman

A telegram received in this city last night brought the sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. George W Woodruff which occurred at 7:15 pm at the residence of her son-in-law, Sir. Joel Hurt, in Atlanta. Although Mrs. Woodruff had reached a ripe old age and had been in feeble health for several years, this announcement will never the less carry sorrow to many hearts in this city and the surrounding community. She had spent far the greater part of her life in Columbus and held a warm place in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian church and a noble Christian woman whose good deeds endeared to her many who will long cherish her memory. During the civil war Mrs. Woodruff did much toward relieving suffering Confederate soldiers and after its close she was among those noble women who put upon foot the first movement to perpetuate the memory of the fallen heroes and was one of the organizers of the memorial association. Mrs. Woodruff was the daughter of Sherwood C and Elizabeth Bright Cooper Lindsay. She was born in Duplin County, NC, May 30, 1829, and was married to Mr. George W Woodruff, April 3, 1850. She is survived by her husband and three children, Mr. Henry L Woodruff, of this city, and Mr. Ernest Woodruff and Mrs. Joel Hurt of Atlanta. She has spent the greater part of her time the past few years with her daughter. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Bellamy of Atlanta, and Mrs. George H Neill, of Columbus, and two brothers, Mrs. Richard E Lindsay, of Pittsview, Ala., and MRs. Cooper Lindsay of Rome. The family has the sympathy of many friends in this bereavement. The remains will arrive in this city tonight on the 8:15 o'clock Central train. The announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made tomorrow morning.
