Virginia Estelle "Ginny" Elcan Rosen, 83, of Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born March 3, 1924, in Elk Hearst, Va., she was the daughter of the late George Hannah and Margaret Virginia Gilliam Elcan. She was the wife of Carl C. Rosen Sr., her husband of 57 years, who died in August 2003. She was a graduate of Buckingham Central High School in Buckingham County, Va. She was a homemaker all of her life. She was a proofreader for her husband's genealogy books. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, her yearly trip to Florida each winter and her bridge groups. She was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian faith. She was a former member of the Westminster Woman's Club and was a charter member of Piney Branch Golf Club. Surviving are daughter Margaret R. "Peggy" Bair of Westminster; son and daughter-in-law Carl C. Fosen Jr. and Susan Grier Rosen of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren and spouse Glenn S. Bair Jr., of Old Lyme, Conn., W. Alexander "Alex" Bair and wife Jessica of Westminster and C. Coleman "Cole" Rosen of Roanoke; great-grandchildren Alexi, Michaela and Landon Bair of Westminster and Reilly and Sonia Bair, both of Old Lyme; a sister, Margaret Elcan Lacy Taylor of Lynchburg, Va.; sister-in-law Anna Burnett Elcan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law J. Cullen and Sarah Sykes Rosen of Buckingham; and nieces and nephews Ruth Virginia Elcan of Amherst, Mass., Jane T. Mitchell, Anne E. Judd and George H. Elcan III, all of Lynchburg, and Richard C. Thompson of Beaver Creek, Ohio. She was predeceased by her brothers William Cleveland, George Hannah Jr. and Henry Eugene Elcan; a sister-in-law, Ruby Rosen Thompson; and a nephew, Jeffrey C. Rosen. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. |
