Virgil F. Deckard, 77, of Norman died Thursday, Aug. 18, in Norman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with the Rev. Jess Willburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Deckard was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Pawhuska, to Virgil Jack and Fleeta Alma (Crumrine) Deckard. He earned his GED and was granted a diploma from Pawhuska High School as a World War II recipient. After his military service he attended Santa Monica City College and later attended Lee College. He married Florene Woodall March 1, 1953, in Pawhuska. He enjoyed his career in the communications industry. He moved from Baytown, Texas, to Norman in 1992. He was a Scottish rite and York Rite Freemason and a Shriner. He was a Navy, Army Air Corps and Marine Corps veteran and retired from the Air Force. Mr. Deckard was preceded in death by his parents and brother Arlen Deckard. Mr. Deckard is survived by his wife Florene of the home; daughter Alma Constance Deckard of the home; and brother James Leroy Deckard of Pawhuska.
