Violet Mary Paterson (5dec1877 Greenock-9jun1957 Glasgow) was daughter of Robert Reid Paterson (b. abt 1834 Greenock) and Elizabeth Mary Thorburn (b. abt 1846 Peebles) (S. Durlac). Walter and Violet were 2nd cousins (D. McGovern). James Johnston Grieve (1810-91) had a sister, Jane Grieve (b. 1814 Killin, Perthshire), who married Walter Thorburn (1801 Peebleshire); Jane had a daughter Elizabeth Mary Thorburn (1845 Peebleshire-1923 Greenock), whose daughter Violet Mary Paterson married Walter Grieve Neill, grandson of James Johnston Grieve (D. McGovern).
