Killed in auto accident Original Message ----- From: SkarletteKY@@aol.com To: darrellwarner@@primary.net Sent: Saturday, November 01, 2003 10:53 AM Subject: Re: Harley & Victoria Martin Being a child when this happened, I only have vague memories. What I do remember hearing over the years was that Victoria and Harley were headed to Denver, CO. Not sure if the car accident happened in Denver or somewhere on the way. Harley and Victoria had one child, Robert Eugene Martin. He was my great grandmother's guardian after Harley died. He made the decision to not tell Grandma that Victoria and Harley had been killed in this accident. So everytime we visited her, my mother cautioned me so much not to say anything to Grandma about the accident. Being that my name was Victoria, Grandma would always bring this into the conversation. I was so afraid of telling the "secret", I could not relax enough to enjoy my time with her. She was such a sweet tiny little lady. She died with a broken heart thinking her beloved son and daughter-in-law had ceased coming to visit her. What a cruel thing to do. Not sure when it happened, but I do believe that Robert Martin is no longer living. I believe he may have had one child. My uncle, Paul Dickerson, may know more about him that I do. I believe my uncle is currently on a trip to Texas. When he returns, I will pick his brain and find out as much as I can about the Martin side of the family. When his mother, Harley's sister died, my uncle was only five. He has very few memories himself. Hopefully though he has more than me. It's so good to touch base to someone who has some ties with the Martin family even if it is thru marriage. When I think of it, I still am filled with sadness. Feel free to include it in the family archives. Just remember that this was the story I was told by my mother, Margaret Dickerson. Robert Martin was her first cousin. When Grandma Martin died, I was 13. I'm sure Bob Martin was at her funeral. Unfortunately I have no memories of him though. So there is no way to verify the story. Grandma is buried at Hull Cemetery next to her daughter, Glena Dickerson. To my knowledge, there is still no headstone to mark her grave. Someone wanted to control her life but never cared enough to mark her passing. I am disabled and am on a very limited income. If ever my life is straightened out so that I have the means, Ellen Martin will have her headstone as will Fred Martin, my great grandpa. Thanks once again, Victoria Billings References
