Verna Mae York, 82, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at her home after a brief illness. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering as Celebrant. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin.
Verna Mae was born in Perry, Texas, Falls County, Texas, to the late Katherine and Philip Paske. She was employed by Houston's Restaurant for many years, and the Elite Café and Moran's Café. She was a lifelong member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Verna married Thomas Eugene York on January 11, 1948. She became a homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and her pets. She was a cheerful, energetic person who enjoyed people and life to the fullest. Her family, religion and church were a very important part of her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Thomas Eugene York; and brothers, Joe Afinowicz, Bruno Afinowicz and Anton Paske.
